Tempe Town Lake was developed from a concept created in 1966 at Arizona State University. It officially opened in November 1999. This lake has a capacity of 977 million gallons of water, all of which is derived from reclaimed water, recharge and recovery and water exchanges. Water is not lost to seepage due to a recovery system that pumps water back into the lake.

Tempe Beach Park is located on Tempe Town Lake and offers over 25 acres of recreation space including Splash Playground which tells the story of how rain becomes part of our rivers by allowing children to play in water elements. There are more than 5 miles of path around the lake for skating, running, bicycling and walking. Take a class and join the more than 2,000 rowers who “ride” on the lake or bring your fishing gear and enjoy a day on the lake.
